Energy Report: New Moon in Sagittarius & Winter Solstice

Whew! It’s that time of year again, where the hustle and bustle of the holiday season brings more focus to those around us, and what we’re able to give. But, in the midst of scurrying from one obligation (oops I meant “place”) to the next, can you give yourself permission to quietly reflect on what you have received as we bring this year to a close? The dark new moon is considered the first phase of a 28-day lunar cycle and is unseen to the naked eye. It is a great time to look within and plant seeds of intentions for that we wish to harvest. Following this new moon window December 17th through the 19th (its exact point Dec.18th at 1:30am) is the Winter Solstice, known as the “Darkest Day of the Year”. The Winter Solstice window is Dec. 20th-22nd; it’s exact point on the 21st at 11:59am. If you’ve found yourself reflecting on this passing year while giving way to what’s in store for the year to come, you’re right in the flow! How so? Well let’s just say cooler temperatures isn’t the only thing making you go inside.

Case in point, we have two planets currently in retrograde (Rx): Uranus and Mercury. Chiron the "Wounded Healer" has gone direct as of the 10th so expect to feel lighter in respect to deep seated wounds however, self-worth and personal freedom become the focus when Uranus is in Rx. Deep rooted, karmic and/or psychological fears may surface, giving you an opportunity to heal, and transmute these traumas. With Mercury in Rx, during this time, issues with miscommunication, transportation and/or technology can occur. This is not the best time to purchase major items, sign contracts, or start new projects unless you are looking at this as a time to tie-up loose ends versus starting anew. This shift in perspective can help lessen the energetic load of any negative situations during this holiday season. In general, astrologically speaking, it’s time to go deeper within to strengthen our connection to Self, so that we may truly shine our brightest in the year to come.

The new moon in Sagittarius offers us an opportunity to focus on what we want to grow in the upcoming year. Where do you see yourself in the next year, or in 5-10 years? Now is an auspicious time to learn and discover new things that can help bring your desires into fruition. You can also tie up any loose ends to help bring more ease into your future endeavors. Sagittarius is a fire sign illuminating areas in your life ready to grow and expand, and what actions steps you can take. Just like fire itself, Sagittarius energy likes to move and can be playful, dynamic, helping to shed light on any areas you may be feeling stuck or stagnant. Fire energy is very transformational and when used in conjunction with Uranus and Mercury in Rx, this can be a time for any subconscious information to come forward for transmutation. Many times when we feel “stuck” it is because we are holding on to “how” things should be based on expectations, versus being open and flexible in how things may manifest, trusting that our will and Divine will are in alignment. Instead of focusing on what isn’t working, where can you expand your perception in order to see things in a new light? If energy flows where attention goes, use what's not working as feedback to what you do want. Feel like your inner flame dying out? Allow the happy-go-lucky, adventurous spirit of this Sagittarius new moon to radiate the positive things in your life, and what’s needed for them to grow. That being said, if asked to name all the things you love in life, how long would it take you to name yourself?

With regards to the Winter Solstice, many cultures around the world come together in fellowship with family and friends during this global festival of lights. Solstice means “sun standstill” and during this time it is the shortest day and darkest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. After this point, you will gradually begin to see an increase in daylight until it reaches its peak at Summer Solstice, when the sun begins its turn towards darkness once again. This time of year, also known as Yule, functions as the intention setting point for the solar cycle, just as a new moon does for the lunar cycle. Its significance influences your life for a complete year long growing cycle.

Traditionally, the Winter Solstice is seen as the time when the Earth Goddess gives birth to the Her “sun” (or “son”). His light re-emerges, born out of the darkness year after year. Many would honor this holy-day or “holiday” by bringing evergreen trees into the home, representing the everlasting nature of the Earth Goddess. The evergreen trees are then decorated with images symbolizing what you want to bring into your life in the year ahead. For example, gold balls represent the sun’s life force, icicles symbolize rain, money or coins welcome abundance, pinecones and acorns supported fertility, while light represents.....well, Light.

During this time of the year, as you honor Winter Solstice, give thanks for the light that shines in your life. Consider intentionally hanging lights or lighting candles in your home to illuminate the darkness, calling forth the rebirth of Light with-in and -out.

Reflection:

*In what ways can you expand yourself spiritually? How can you deepen the connection between Spirit and yourself?

*In what ways can you expand your mind, thoughts and beliefs to usher in more creativity and see things from a better perspective?

*Are there old emotions you're willing to let go of, in order to feel happier, lighter and freer?

*Physically, what needs to be tended to, released or nurtured so that you can create more space to receive that which supports you and your goals in the year ahead?

*Although there is darkness in the world, how do you choose to honor the light that is here too?

*Without judgment, notice the first number that comes to mind when asked, on a scale of 0%-100%, how willing are you to step out of darkness, and shine as the bright, magnificent being that you are?

*What does “glowing up” look like for you in 2018? Give yourself permission to daydream or pre-tend, then in-tend to experience that or better.
